Just two for now.  I will be working a 72 hour shift starting in the morning and need to get some rest! It's amazing how many hours you can rack up during the holiday season.
This first spread is all about envelopes!  Yes envelopes.  I love envelopes for some reason.  I think they're very special because they can hold all kinds of suprises, like the keys to wonderful treasure, maps that mark the spot to untold monies and other valuable things.  They can carry good news and bad news.  Your cute little paycheck that you worked hard for or endless bills that you think now you should have known better.  But all my envelopes have gone to the dogs because all I ever get are bills and an occasional paycheck.  Thank the gods for email!

The second spread is a prompt from Sarah Whitmire's twitter prompts.  The first prompt asks us to use a card in the spread, of course I love the joker! I wanted to try a new color combination and ended up really liking the results. I also like the way the black pen wavy vertical lines worked out.

Enjoyed these pages. I've used envelopes to hold seeds also. I like them better than plastic bags as the seeds don't get moldy if they aren't totally dry. I am making a journal in a class by Mary Ann Moss and some of the pages are made of opened up security envelopes!

Do you use watercolor or acrylic paints for your backgrounds? I was layering acrylics in my composition book but the pages were too flimsy to hold so much so I started gluing a couple together plus cutting some out because of the thickness building up in the book. It looks as if it's working for you to use single pages.

Seventytwo hour shifts - that's tough! Won't it be nice when wireless broadband (or whatever the heck it's called) will be available everywhere for everyone? I keep hoping it will be someday.

I like how you sewed the button in your journal, but I wonder why the pages don't tear? Did you reinforce the page somehow?

Sorry this took so long to answer Liz! I didn't actually sew the buttons in, although I have seen special needles just for paper. I glued in on! The only problem is I don't really like the way the other side of the page looks. I haven't journaled on the other side of that page yet but will have to incorporate some design to either hide or embellish the flat spot the button created.

Freebird! So sorry this has taken so long. Thanks for all the kind comments! I do use the cheapest acrylic I can find and I don't "paint" it on I use a credit card and scrape it on. It keeps the volume down. I too love the security envelopes! I'll have to check out the Mary Ann Moss workshop, although I'm busy with Kathryn Antyr's Storytelling and Collage at the moment!

Creating Personal Retreats an Online Workshop

The Entrance This is week three, Contemplation!  So the front side of our Retreat House is done, mostly, I can see where I would like to add more personally meaningful additions here and there. I'm taking this Online Workshop with Cathryn Antyr, the collagediva . I did another workshop with Cathryn and was very pleased with the details of instruction and the photos which guide you along and this workshop is no different.  I beleive that through this work I am finding balance in my life which was sorely needed. First Panels My artistic blossoming is depicted by a Louts flower.  Each petal reflects an aspect I am working on.  I also added that while I am doing this work I will allow myself to gently unfold but at the same time allow exploration while holding close to what has heart and meaning for me personally. Center Panels This panel is a santuary for Ganesh.  The little window opens to reveal some of the attributes of Ganesh, he is the Lord of Protection and Refuse.

t This is what I did with the last background that I showed you.  I don't usually go in for pink but this felt right and this is also the first time using black paint.  I have a little tool I've made, from needlework grid. I cut it at the point where it leaves little "nobs" which I drag through the paint on the page. I was reading Joyce Lee's Notes to Self , which I find profoundly uplifting and used her wisdom for this spread. I quote: "I knowingly accept that I am a work in progress. I do understand that taking baby steps is the most I can do some days. I recognize my growth potential as I love and honor my path."  These are words I needed to hear!  I really needed to go easy with my self.  I've lost so many work hours and well you know, lots of idle time and no money!  Thank goodness for all my supplies!   I've been very strong!  No shopping!  It's times like this that make you dip a little deeper into your own soul and find the kind

 These bits and pieces are so cute!   I've been thinking about making "One Word Meditation" cards for a while and I think the composition of these would work out really well for that.   They sort of remind me of those perfectly serene  Japanese Zen gardens .  These rock gardens are said to be created so that no matter where you sit you cannot see all of the boulders and so goes the meditation. Of course, my cards are outrageously imperfect, as a matter of fact they are downright wild!  Each card will come with a relating splash of collage paper on the flap of the envelope.  Here are some with words just for fun but they are not the One Word Meditations words I will be using.  I'm still working out the aesthetics on how I want to display and attach them. Next in line are Valentine Cards which I think will look great with a wonky kind of heart. Anyway, Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful and safe New Year's Eve.
