 These bits and pieces are so cute!   I've been thinking about making "One Word Meditation" cards for a while and I think the composition of these would work out really well for that.   They sort of remind me of those perfectly serene  Japanese Zen gardens .  These rock gardens are said to be created so that no matter where you sit you cannot see all of the boulders and so goes the meditation. Of course, my cards are outrageously imperfect, as a matter of fact they are downright wild!  Each card will come with a relating splash of collage paper on the flap of the envelope.  Here are some with words just for fun but they are not the One Word Meditations words I will be using.  I'm still working out the aesthetics on how I want to display and attach them. Next in line are Valentine Cards which I think will look great with a wonky kind of heart. Anyway, Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful and safe New Year's Eve.

   I have been playing with a new technique.  It has been absolutely transformational!  I couldn't stop myself; I was lost in time for hours. I love when that happens. I'm working on a new line of greeting notecards which are A2 size.  These new cards are just a bit smaller than my Siapo Greeting cards that are A6, but the impact is huge.  These new backgrounds are so perfect for my new line of notecard.  The cards feature little bits and pieces of all my favorite left over painted papers.  They are mainly upcycled treasures too beautiful to toss that I have saved over time.  Like old maps I've altered, sheet music that has been painted or Gelli printed or in some other way altered.  I also have some found and exotic papers in the mix.  The papers have been stamped or stenciled or doodled on in a way that makes them truly unique.  I've tried some new techniques using several new mediums that I haven't used for a long time or ne...

Wow! “It's been a while”, is an understatement. A lot has happened! I hope you all are surviving the chaotic times we are living in. I have turned to creating smaller, easier to manage art after an unfortunate injury that seems a lifetime ago. I'm fine but my mobility is a little compromised. No worries, because I am loving what I am doing. I've been making greeting cards. Tons of different types of greeting cards. First, I'm really excited about my original collage art cards. These little beauties are suitable for framing! There are prints of my original paintings. Others are photos of my art and photos of my local travels, that I've altered using cool apps. Moving into smaller art has changed my perspective in countless ways. I'm learning to use trusted mediums in new ways on what seems miniature substrate. My sister, Penina Ava Taesali and I have collaborated again on another book of political poetry!!  It's a little chapbook but so full of power!!! I hadn't talked to my sister for a few months and one day she called me.  We talked a bit to catch up but then she asked if I knew someone who would be willing to illustrate her new book of poetry called Summons: Love Letters To The People.  Since I illustrated her first book I thought I would be the likely candidate.  However, the book required only black and white illustrations! I was shocked because I had just finished a series called Black and White in a Country Divided.  The series has 25 pieces, both on canvas and paper, Mixed Media and Collage. This little book came together as if it had a life of it's own.  It birthed itself March 29, 2018.  The editor faded the front and back covers to allow for the printing to show up but the inside illustrations are as they appear in life. Found a new application to play with. It's called Adobe Spark and it's available for your phone as well.  I just played around with it briefly.  Lots of good tools to create with and very easy!!

My old and favorite blog, artstudio49.blogspot.com has evolved to contain my ART as a clearinghouse of sorts.  It’s what I think will keep me organized, and possibility even sane.  I have joined forces with several online artist/designer-selling platforms.  These companies manufacture, ship, and pay the Artists/Designers an agreed upon stipend for the use of their digital files containing the artwork. I won’t get rich or even famous but these platforms are a way to get my work out into the universe or even just the virtual universe. I've been spending lots of time over at Fine Art America.  I had joined last year but never added anything to the site.  I took some time off this semester to help out with my beautiful great granddaughter so I didn't have lots of time to paint.  However, good old collage came to the fore.  I find collage to be a great exercise in art.  It doesn't take a lot of time or room but the results can be exciting.  So I have created some new cards and with the help of Fine Art America you can purchase a number of items featuring my art.  Lots of things like shopping totes, cell phone covers even shower curtains!! What I've been up to lately!  Greeting Cards!! I have created some greeting cards that are near and dear to my heart.  They will be available at my brand new Esty shop called AliiTasiStudio, opening at the end of September 2016.   My greeting cards are one of a kind. There are no two exactly alike. In this series they are hand made from recycled tea bags and stamped with my hand carved stamps using archival inks.   Each tea bag is a piece of signed original art.    I was inspired to create these cards by my Samoan ancestors and from living with Siapo hanging on the wall of my bedroom as a child.   They are reminiscent of traditional hand pounded Siapo, also known as Tapa, made from Mulberry Tree bark.   There is a long history of Polynesian Tapa in Oceania.   Siapo was/is used as an element of value, given at Births, Weddings, Funerals and important ceremonial gatherings involving High Talking Chiefs and V...
